Interview Tips 🗣️

Walking into an interview can feel like stepping onto a stage—spotlights on, all eyes watching. But with the right preparation, you can turn nerves into confidence and leave a lasting impression. Whether you’re a first-time job seeker or a seasoned professional, acing an interview comes down to knowing what to say, how to say it, and how to best present yourself and your unique value. In this guide, we’ll break down essential tips to help you stand out.

Get to know yourself! 🫵

It may sound a bit cheesy but you will need to start by having a deep understanding of yourself and what you are looking for out of your next position. Understand your motivations, your strengths and maybe where they came from, did you learn them from past experiences in work? How have you applied them in roles since? This way, you can better sell yourself during the interview.

Dress to Impress 🤵

First impressions can go a long way in an interview. Present yourself professionally, if you are unsure on what to wear, it won’t hurt to ask the recruiter or coordinator about the dress code.

Do Your Research 🔬

Nobody wants to be going into an interview feeling underprepared, they can be quite stressful situations as they are, so don’t make it harder for yourself! Make sure that you have researched the company’s values, culture, background and maybe even some recent success stories, that way, it shows that your intentions are in the right place. 👍

Accomplishments 🏆

Come prepared with a couple of examples of previous accomplishments which illustrate key characteristics for the position to show how you may be able to add value. This will also assist you with any scenario-based questions they may ask.

Ask Questions ❓

The point of an interview is for you to find out if it is going to be the right fit for you as much as it is for them, so make sure you are prepared with questions about the role and the company, this will also show them that you are interested and dedicated to the process.

Last but not least, be nice! 😁

Make sure that you are friendly with everyone as soon as you walk into the building, from the receptionist through to the managers interviewing you, you never know who’s mum’s friend’s son’s cousin might sign you in 😉

Interviewing for a new position can be an anxious time, whether you are leaving strong friendships at your previous company or having come from a bad experience, it is normal to be nervous, that is why you should follow the above steps to give yourself the best possible chance and to hopefully reduce those nerves a little bit.
